“We’re not standing in live traffic anymore” – Multevo’s frontline shift to Remote Stop/Go with INSTABOOM Go

Solar Gates’ award-winning INSTABOOM Go is playing a key role in keeping Multevo’s In-house traffic management operatives safer on Britain’s roads.

Multevo, a nationwide highways and civil engineering firm, has rolled out more than 20 INSTABOOM Gounits from Solar Gates to improve operative safety on a major local authority contract for pothole and patch repairs. Multevo deployed the units to enhance safety and efficiency across a wide-ranging, county-wide operation.

The solar powered, remotely operated Stop/Go boards are being used to help Multevo’s in-house teams manage live traffic without stepping into the carriageway.

While Multevo’s highways and traffic management teams are well-equipped to take on the job, Operations Manager Karl Fairhurst knew that extra safety measures would be vital.

He said: “The INSTABOOM Go keeps operatives out of the carriageway, it’s as simple as that. They’re easy to set up, simple to use and light enough to sling in the back of a van once a job’s done. They’re currently being used in a county-wide contract to deal with potholes. Over the duration of the contract, we expect to cover large swathes of the county.

“Having the INSTABOOM Go’s with us has been a very welcome, extra safety element that has helped our teams stay out of the road and out of danger.”

With Multevo’s highways and traffic management crews tackling up to six jobs a day under the contract, the ability to deploy safety-critical equipment quickly and consistently has proved essential.

Karl, who has worked in TM for over 20 years, added:

“I’ve been on one or two bonnets in my time. Even with all precautions in place, there’s always the risk that someone could get hurt. That’s why we give the safety of our crews such a high priority.”

INSTABOOM Go is part of Solar Gates growing suite of safety solutions for highways and construction worksites. The remote-operated INSTABOOM Go keeps operatives out of the carriageway, supporting both Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice (Red Book), which recommend using remote Stop/Go systems where possible.

“It’s helped us steer clear of some really dangerous situations,” Karl said. “The feedback from the team has been good. There’s a huge and welcome reduction in the chance of team members getting hurt – which is priceless.”
