Motorists in Surrey are being urged to plan their journeys carefully as major repair works at a busy A3 junction are set to continue for the rest of the year.
National Highways has warned that congestion is likely while essential maintenance is carried out at the Dennis Roundabout in Guildford, as well as along the stretch of the A3 between the roundabout and Woodenbridge footbridge.
The scheme is due to begin on 11 May, starting with a series of overnight closures. Initial works will focus on repairing the concrete structures of the two bridges at the roundabout.
To allow the project to progress, a lane closure on the western side of the roundabout will remain in place throughout much of the programme.
A second phase, scheduled to begin in June, will move onto the A3 itself and include resurfacing sections of the carriageway.
National Highways said the works are necessary to extend the lifespan of the infrastructure and reduce the need for more disruptive repairs in the future, while also improving safety and driving conditions.
However, the timing means the project follows closely after significant disruption caused by recent upgrade works at the nearby A3/M25 junction 10, which involved multiple weekend closures.
Drivers are being encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes where possible.
