Raspberry Software, a company specialising in rail revenue protection technology, has released a new white paper examining the challenges facing the UK rail sector as it shifts towards public ownership.
The report, titled ‘The move to DFTO: what it means for revenue protection’, highlights the importance of increased collaboration, improved data collection, and the adoption of consistent best practices as the industry undergoes this transition.
With over 20 years of experience in developing revenue protection solutions, Raspberry Software also provides guidance for train operating companies (TOCs) preparing for the move to public ownership. In line with the Office of Rail and Road’s (ORR) 2025 review, the paper calls for a more standardised and unified approach to revenue protection across the national rail network.
Peter Jarvis, Director at Raspberry Software, commented: “The transition to DFTO marks a significant turning point for the rail sector. It’s not only about organisational change, but also about building ticketing and revenue protection systems that passengers can easily understand and have confidence in.
“This shift presents a valuable opportunity to restore public trust in revenue protection. However, it also introduces a range of operational and strategic challenges for teams responsible for both revenue protection and customer experience across the network.
“Enhancing data sharing between operators could help create a more equitable experience for passengers, while also improving efficiency behind the scenes.”
Raspberry Software confirmed it is collaborating with DFTO and TOCs across the country, as well as key stakeholders involved in shaping Great British Railways (GBR). Through this involvement, the company is helping to provide practical, real-world insights to support the development of a more integrated and consistent revenue protection framework.
