More than two weeks after the Gallows Corner flyover rebuild was due to be completed, Transport for London (TfL)has confirmed it is examining ways to make it easier for motorists to navigate the ongoing construction site.
The major junction, which has been fully closed since July 23 for reconstruction, was originally expected to reopen in September. However, TfL announced in late August that completion had been delayed indefinitely due to “unforeseen ground conditions” and other unexpected challenges.
With no revised finish date yet announced, the transport authority has said it is looking at potential measures to improve the flow of traffic and reduce congestion in the surrounding area.
Responding to inquiries from the Recorder following reports of a possible phased or partial reopening, a TfL spokesperson said:
“We are exploring options to make it easier for drivers and buses to move through the area and support local businesses. We hope to issue further details on our programme in the next few weeks.”
Recent aerial photos taken on October 14 show visible progress at the site, including a newly installed section of the structure — suggesting work on the flyover continues despite the extended timeline.
