Wiltshire Council has confirmed it will continue its traffic signal maintenance programme, underlining its commitment to a safe, reliable, and efficient road network.

The renewed agreement ensures that essential infrastructure—such as traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, and control systems—will remain well maintained and fully operational. This forms part of the council’s broader highways strategy, which focuses on improving safety, reducing disruption, and enhancing journeys for both residents and visitors.

Through a proactive asset management approach, the council aims to detect and address faults quickly, limiting delays and keeping traffic moving. The contract includes routine inspections, preventative works, and swift repairs to minimise downtime across both urban and rural routes.

A council spokesperson emphasised the importance of well-functioning traffic signals in managing congestion, protecting vulnerable road users, and supporting local economic activity. Even small issues at busy junctions can have wider impacts, making consistent maintenance essential.

Under the agreement, Telent will continue as the delivery partner, providing technical expertise in intelligent transport systems and infrastructure services. Their role will involve maintaining existing equipment while also supporting the introduction of new technologies where needed.

The extension of this arrangement reflects the council’s wider ambitions around sustainable travel and smart infrastructure, ensuring Wiltshire’s highways network remains adaptable and fit for the future.
