Ubitricity, the UK’s largest public electric vehicle charging operator and a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell, has announced the acquisition of FM Conway’s SureCharge EV charging network.

The takeover will see more than 2,400 additional charge points added to the ubitricity Shell Recharge network, significantly boosting coverage across London.

The chargers are installed within streetlamps on residential roads and provide charging speeds of 4.8kW, making them well suited to overnight charging for local residents.

The transition began on 2 February 2026, with all existing SureCharge units expected to be rebranded as Shell Recharge charge points within the next two months.

Following the acquisition, ubitricity’s nationwide network will exceed 14,000 public charge points across 30 local authorities. The expansion builds on a period of rapid growth for the operator, which has included the installation of 2,000 charge points in Tower Hamlets, more than 500 in Waltham Forest, and 560 across Birmingham.

Alexander Reinhardt, chief executive of ubitricity, said the expansion supports the company’s ambition to widen access to dependable and affordable public charging across the UK.

“This acquisition helps accelerate the rollout of sustainable mobility solutions for drivers and local communities,” he said.

Rebecca Hatch, digital urban solutions director at FM Conway, said the company was pleased to see the SureCharge network continue to grow under new ownership.

“We are very excited to be working with ubitricity to build on the success achieved over the past five years since SureCharge was introduced to our London borough clients,” she said.

Planning a trip usually involves comparing flights, hotels, and rental cars all at once. During one of my vacations, I used autorentals to compare vehicle options in the city I was visiting. What I appreciated most was seeing multiple offers gathered in one search instead of browsing several separate sites. It helped me evaluate prices and policies more efficiently. For travelers who like having options clearly organized, that type of comparison platform can simplify the booking process.
