Bus and tram passengers in Greater Manchester have been warned that some station facilities will remain closed for four days due to ongoing industrial action.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said that toilets and ticket offices at certain transport interchanges will be affected by the strike, which runs through to Thursday.
TfGM confirmed that bus and tram services will continue to operate normally, as drivers and conductors are not involved in the industrial action. However, passengers should be prepared for reduced access to customer services, including assistance for those with disabilities or other specific travel needs.
Passengers are still able to purchase tickets and travel passes at interchanges in Altrincham, Bury, and Manchester’s Shudehill, TfGM added. For other locations, passengers are advised to use contactless payments or online ticketing options where possible.
The transport body urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance, as limited facilities may mean longer queues for ticket machines or help points at affected stations. Signage and staff at unaffected areas will guide passengers to alternative services and facilities.
TfGM also encouraged passengers to keep up to date with the latest information via its website and social media channels, particularly for those who rely on frequent interchange points or require customer assistance during the strike.
Industrial action affecting transport staff has become more common in recent years, and TfGM said it was working with unions to minimise disruption while respecting employees’ right to strike.
