Following a competitive procurement process and the successful completion of two recent projects in Essex, M Group is again working with Essex County Council to deliver infrastructure schemes in the county.

M Group is proud to announce it has been awarded the contract to deliver the Dovercourt Public Realm Scheme in Essex, as part of a wider multi-million-pound regeneration programme.

Valued at £2.39 million and led by Essex County Council in partnership with Tendring District Council, the project aims to revitalise the Kingsway corridor between Dovercourt Railway Station and the seafront.

As part of the public realm enhancements M Group will help create attractive new spaces at key locations, including Kingsway Hall, Harwich Library, and at the Marine Parade Junction, with improved lighting and measures to deter anti-social behaviour.

Our team will contribute to transforming Dovercourt Station Plaza, creating a greener and safer public space. We’ll help implement safety improvements including new footways, public space pavements at High Street Junction, tree pits, street furniture, traffic calming measures and upgraded street lighting.

We’ll also improve surfacing on both sides of the carriageway, install tactile paving, and enhance wayfinding to encourage footfall from the seafront to the town centre.

The project is scheduled for completion by spring 2027 and will include resurfacing, kerb upgrades, drainage works, amendments to parking, and the introduction of new benches, refuse bins and trees.

M Group’s Regional Director, Ant Brown, said: “We’re delighted that Essex County Council has chosen to work with M Group again highlighting the expertise of our team across public realm projects and dedication to delivering high quality within schedule.”

Councillor Lee Scott, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Planning and Regeneration, said: “The Dovercourt Public Realm Scheme is a vital part of our joint plans to kickstart an ambitious programme of regeneration in the area.

“Together with the recent refurbishment of Harwich Library, it will revitalise the town centre, support local residents and businesses, and encourage further investment in the area.”

Councillor Mark Platt, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport, said: “The scheme will create a more inviting route along Kingsway for people walking between the station and seafront. It will help to make the town centre an even more attractive place to live, work, shop and visit.”
