A new traffic management system will be introduced on the Menai Suspension Bridge from 19 February to allow permanent repairs to damaged crossbeams.

The arrangement, expected to last around eight days, will operate as a tidal flow system to manage traffic in both directions.

Under the system, traffic will be allowed to travel from Anglesey to the mainland between 7am and 1pm, and from the mainland to Anglesey from 1pm to 7pm. Outside of these periods, from 7pm to 7am, normal traffic signals will control the bridge.

The Welsh Government said the updated Phase 2 programme significantly reduces the duration and extent of traffic management compared with earlier plans, limiting disruption for commuters, residents, and businesses.

Officials also stressed that the 7.5-tonne weight limit will remain strictly enforced to ensure safe bridge operations while repair work is carried out.
