Transport for London (TfL) will invest £94.8 million across London’s 32 boroughs and the City of London over the next year to support projects aimed at making streets safer, healthier and more sustainable.

The funding will support borough-led improvements on local road networks, including new cycle routes, pedestrian crossings, School Streets and measures designed to reduce road danger and improve bus performance.

The announcement comes alongside a new TfL report highlighting progress made over the past three years in partnership with boroughs. Between 2022 and 2025, the programme delivered 147 kilometres of protected cycle routes and nearly 400 pedestrian crossings across the capital.

Expanding cycling, walking and safer streets

The latest funding will support further expansion of London’s Cycleways network, helping boroughs deliver additional protected routes for cyclists.

New pedestrian crossings will also be installed to improve safety in local neighbourhoods, while School Streets schemeswill continue to be rolled out to allow children to walk or cycle to school more safely by restricting traffic outside schools during drop-off and pick-up times.

Additional investment will support projects that:

  • Reduce road danger and lower vehicle speeds

  • Expand parking for cycles and micromobility devices

  • Improve bus reliability and performance

  • Support healthier and more sustainable travel options

Supporting faster and more reliable bus services

Part of the funding will also help launch TfL’s Better Bus Partnership, which aims to improve journey times and reliability for passengers.

The initiative includes measures to reduce delays and enhance the customer experience, with a goal of cutting bus travel times by up to 30% on key routes.

Healthy Streets programme funding

The borough funding forms part of TfL’s wider Healthy Streets programme, which is expected to receive more than £158 million in 2026/27, subject to confirmation of TfL’s overall budget.

Of this, £94.8 million has been allocated for borough schemes delivered through their Local Implementation Plans – representing an increase of more than £7 million compared with 2025/26.

At this stage, £80.7 million is being released, split between:

  • £33.2 million for inner London boroughs

  • £47.5 million for outer London boroughs

Additional funding will be released later in the year as project designs progress.

Supporting Vision Zero and sustainable travel

TfL said the funding continues to support the Mayor of London’s Vision Zero strategy, which aims to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries from London’s transport network by 2041.

The investment also contributes to the wider Healthy Streets ambition of increasing sustainable travel, with the Mayor targeting 80% of all journeys in London to be made by walking, cycling or public transport by 2041.
