Berlin-based start-up Nox Mobility has raised €2 million in early-stage funding as it looks to bring a new wave of overnight rail travel to Europe.

The pre-seed investment, led by IBB Ventures with additional backing from Italian investor Tommaso Lucca and industry specialists, will support the development of the company’s concept and preparations for its first routes, expected to launch in 2027.

Founded in 2025, Nox Mobility aims to reinvent night train travel by combining the efficiency of air travel with the comfort of high-end hospitality. Its proposed trains will feature fully private rooms for all passengers—removing the need for shared compartments—and are intended to be priced competitively with short-haul flights.

The funding will be used to create a full-scale mock-up of the train interiors, as well as advance operational planning ahead of launch. The company is positioning overnight rail as a practical and attractive alternative for long-distance journeys, offering passengers the ability to travel while they sleep and avoid the cost of additional hotel stays.

Nox Mobility believes the model will appeal to both leisure and business travellers. For holidaymakers, overnight services can maximise time at their destination, while business users can avoid early flights and minimise disruption to their working day.

The company’s leadership team brings experience from rail, technology and mobility sectors, and is targeting a service that offers consistent timetables, personalised onboard experiences and a more predictable travel option.

Investors have highlighted the growing demand for sustainable travel alternatives, with rail seen as a lower-carbon option compared to aviation. Backers say the combination of existing infrastructure and renewed interest in night trains presents a significant opportunity for innovation in the sector.

With development now underway, Nox Mobility is aiming to tap into the resurgence of overnight rail across Europe, positioning itself at the forefront of a more comfortable and sustainable era of long-distance travel.
