Southern Gas Networks (SGN) has selected 16 contractors to support a major long-term programme aimed at upgrading ageing gas infrastructure across southern England, with the framework expected to deliver around £1 billion of work over the coming years.
The appointments form part of SGN’s GD3 Repex Tier 1 framework, which will focus on replacing and strengthening sections of the gas distribution network while improving reliability and future resilience across the region.
Several contractors secured significant portions of the programme, with Clancy Docwra and Network Delivery Associates both winning work across every regional area included in the framework.
I&G Contractors also secured a strong position after being appointed to projects covering the Poole and Solent area, Oxford and Aldershot, and the Horsham and Ashford region.
Other companies awarded multiple contracts include Cappagh Contractors Construction, Direct Mole, Forefront Utilities and JDT Utilities.
The framework will cover a broad range of utility infrastructure activities, including gas mains replacement, reinforcement schemes, diversions, service connections, disconnections and reinstatement works.
SGN said contractors would deliver the schemes on a turnkey basis, while the utility company will directly supply polyethylene pipework and associated fittings for the programme.
One of the most significant packages within the framework covers the London area, including Epsom, Orpington and Godstone, with the contract valued at approximately £274 million.
The agreement is scheduled to run until March 2031, although SGN has the option to extend the framework for an additional two years.
Across the full programme, SGN is aiming to complete more than 566km of gas mains replacement annually as part of its wider investment strategy to modernise critical utility infrastructure throughout its network area.
