Section of M6 in Cumbria to close in both directions

NATIONAL Highways has provided an update on plans to replace a railway bridge near Penrith, revealing that the works will see an Eden section of the M6 closed in both directions.


The railway bridge at Clifton, near Penrith will need to be demolished and replaced, the work will see the M6 closed between Junction 39 at Shap and Junction 40 at Penrith.Closures will be in place on the stretch of motorway from 8pm on Friday January 2 to 5am on Monday January 5 and again between 8pm on Friday January 9 and 5am on Monday January 12.


In addition to the closures, changes to the road layout will be in place at Junction 40 and on the A66 roundabout at Kemplay Bank.


National Highways has said the changes to road layout will be designed to keep the traffic moving during the disruption.Some roads will be accessible to business owners and residents only during the M6 closures.


Business owners and residents will receive information about their permits, if eligible, by Monday December 15.


Public information events will be held throughout December so that the public can ask questions about the road safety measures.


Clifton Primary School will host one of the drop-in sessions between 6pm and 7.30pm on Monday December 1 and Eamont Bridge Village Hall between 9.30am and 6.30pm on Tuesday December 2.
