A total of £1,548.57 has been awarded to support the Samaritans based near the M2 in Kent, enabling important upgrades to their office facilities.

With this funding, new office chairs have been purchased for the Medway branch’s two operational rooms, each of which can accommodate up to four volunteers per shift. The team has also restocked essential stationery supplies — including notepads and pens — which are vital for day-to-day operations, as well as for recruitment and training events.

Alice Alexander is a Project Manager at National Highways involved in work to replace a bridge parapet on the Medway Bridge, a major M2 motorway crossing over the River Medway in Kent. She said:

“We recognise that our work affects local communities, and we’re committed to supporting them wherever we can. National Highways works closely with Samaritans, who provide vital support to people in distress, so when a colleague who had previously volunteered with the charity suggested we look at ways to support the local branch, we were very keen to get involved.

“We discovered that the team funds its own stationery from a central budget, so providing these essential supplies — along with upgrading some of their furniture — was a practical and meaningful way for us to help. It may seem like a small gesture, but it can make a real difference to the invaluable work they do.”
