Drivers are being warned of a series of overnight closures on the A47 as work progresses on major upgrades to the route.

National Highways has confirmed the road will be shut in both directions between the Cucumber Lane roundabout at Brundall and the Acle roundabout from 8pm to 6am on Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 March.

Traffic management in place

Diversions will be in operation during the closures, while residents in North Burlingham will be escorted through the affected stretch.

The works are part of preparations to move traffic onto a newly constructed section of road, with a 40mph contraflow system set to be introduced during the final phases.

Further closures at Thickthorn

Additional overnight restrictions will also affect the A47 near the A11 Thickthorn junction.

  • The westbound carriageway will be closed from the A140 to Thickthorn between 8pm and 6am each nightfrom March 16 to March 27

  • Traffic will be diverted via Norwich

  • The westbound entry slip at Thickthorn will remain open

At the same time, eastbound closures will also take place to allow for sheet piling works ahead of a new underpass being built.

Drivers heading east will be diverted using the Thickthorn roundabout slip roads.

Advice for motorists

Road users are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys, particularly during overnight hours when the closures will be in force.
