Four nights of overnight closures have been scheduled on the A34 northbound near Oxford to allow emergency bridge repairs to take place following disruption earlier in the day.
Oxfordshire County Council confirmed that the A34 will be closed between the Botley Interchange and the Peartree Interchange from 8pm to 6am each night, starting Wednesday 4 March and continuing until Saturday 7 March.
The works are being carried out by National Highways, although the precise cause of the bridge repairs has not yet been confirmed.
A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council said:“Emergency bridge repairs will require the A34 northbound to be closed overnight between Botley and Peartree from 8pm to 6am.
“These night closures are planned from tonight until March 7 from 8pm to 6am. The works are being carried out by National Highways.”
The closures follow heavy traffic disruption earlier in the day, after a vehicle incident was reported at around 11:45am, leading to significant queues for northbound traffic in the area.
At the time of the incident, one lane of the A34 was closed while National Highways began initial repair works.
Motorists travelling through the area during the overnight closures are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys while the repairs are carried out.
