Great Western Railway (GWR) has teamed up with UNESCO UK to introduce a new initiative aimed at encouraging people to explore UNESCO-recognised locations across South West England.

The campaign features a series of curated trails designed to guide visitors through eight notable sites, highlighting themes of sustainability, creativity, and cultural heritage. Each route has been developed to be straightforward to follow, offering insights into the unique qualities of each destination along with practical travel information.

As part of the initiative, travellers are encouraged to begin their journeys by rail, with key GWR stations promoted as starting points. Supporting materials, including maps and promotional displays, will help visitors plan their trips and navigate the routes with ease.

The project has been delivered through UNESCO UK’s Local to Global programme, with funding support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. It aims to connect significant heritage locations while making them more accessible to both local residents and tourists.

Nushin Hussain, Project Implementation Manager for the programme, said the partnership demonstrates how collaboration can bring together important heritage sites and transport links to create meaningful visitor experiences. She added that the trails not only celebrate the region’s cultural and natural assets but also promote more environmentally friendly ways to explore them.

Further details about the trails are available through official campaign resources.
