Planned roadworks on the M62 have been pushed back following feedback from local residents and businesses—but drivers are still being warned to expect disruption once the project gets underway.
National Highways has confirmed it is delaying repairs to Scammonden Bridge, a key route carrying the B6114 over the motorway between junctions 22 and 24. The work, which involves replacing the bridge’s ageing aluminium parapet with a stronger steel structure, had been due to begin this week.
Originally, the project would have meant a full bridge closure from April through to October. However, after what officials described as “customer feedback,” those plans are now being reworked.
Engineers are developing a revised schedule aimed at keeping the bridge open as much as possible—though some restrictions will still be unavoidable.
Even with the delay, disruption on the motorway itself is still likely. Previous plans included overnight closures of the M62 in both directions between junctions 22 and 24, with traffic halted from 8pm to 6am across multiple periods in May, June, July, and August.
National Highways says some temporary closures will remain necessary to safely install traffic management and carry out the repairs.
An updated programme is expected in due course, but the message to drivers is clear: while the timeline may have shifted, the impact hasn’t disappeared.
