M Group has been recognised with four Green Apple Awards for 2025, celebrating significant achievements in environmental performance across its Water, Energy and Renewables divisions.
Two of the awards honour the Southampton Link Main, a major Southern Water resilience scheme delivered by MGjv, the joint venture between M Group Water and Galliford Try. The project involves constructing a 17km strategic pipelineconnecting Otterbourne Water Supply Works with the city of Southampton and, in its final phase, two underground reservoirs.
This investment will enhance long-term water security while reducing dependency on sensitive chalk streams, including the Test and the Itchen.
Judges highlighted the project’s comprehensive approach to environmental responsibility, praising its sustainable design, responsible construction techniques, waste minimisation, ecological protection and active engagement with local communities.
A third award acknowledges the M Group Energy team for carbon reduction achieved through Project Levi and the One Data meter-reading programme. By integrating water and energy meter-reading teams and applying advanced route-optimisation technology, the initiative has significantly increased operational efficiency.
As a result, the team has removed 140 vehicles from service, cutting annual road miles by 622,000, reducing fuel consumption by 69,000 litres and lowering emissions by 255,657kg CO₂e, while also supporting improved local air quality.
The fourth award recognises the Renewable Connections team for carbon savings on the Monk Fryston project. The team worked closely with the client to apply innovative soil-stabilisation methods and a life-cycle approach to environmental impact. These measures reduced vehicle movements and on-site disruption, delivering an estimated 1,400 tCO₂e carbon saving. Additional dust-suppression measures and a noise mitigation strategy further limited local impacts.
Collectively, the four awards reflect M Group’s continued dedication to embedding sustainability into the heart of its operations. The company continues to invest in innovation and best practice to deliver essential infrastructure while minimising environmental impact and creating lasting community benefits.
