Knowsley Council’s Cabinet has approved a £32.8 million Grant Funding Agreement with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to enhance the borough’s highways network.

The funding forms part of the broader £1.58 billion Transport for City Regions (TCR) programme awarded to the Liverpool City Region by Central Government. The initiative aims to improve transport links, support major housing developments, and drive economic growth and regeneration.

In Knowsley, the investment will cover highway maintenance, road safety improvements, and sustainable travel schemes over the period 2027–2032.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said:"Securing this funding is a major step forward for Knowsley’s transport network. Ensuring high-quality roads, safe footpaths, and reliable infrastructure is a top priority for our residents. This investment will allow us to make our streets safer, better maintained, and more connected, benefiting everyone who lives, works, and travels here."

The funding is expected to unlock further opportunities for the borough, supporting productivity and long-term regeneration across Knowsley.
