Kier has been appointed to deliver a key element of the Sizewell C nuclear project, with a contract to construct the main site entrance on the Suffolk coast.

The works will focus on the development of the North Plaza, a 15-hectare area designed to enhance access and support logistics during construction of the new power station. The facility will act as a primary entry point to the Temporary Construction Area.

Plans for the plaza include transport interchanges, delivery handling areas and security infrastructure, all intended to improve coordination on site and reduce operational inefficiencies as the project progresses.

Improved access arrangements are expected to play an important role in maintaining construction schedules for Sizewell C, which is being developed to provide a stable source of low-carbon electricity and contribute to the UK’s energy security.

The contract is also expected to support local employment, with around 70 jobs anticipated to be created as part of the works.

Damian Leydon, Site Delivery Director for Sizewell C, said the project would be delivered in collaboration with local partners, including the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and regional suppliers, with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Kier brings prior experience from major nuclear infrastructure projects, including Hinkley Point C, which is expected to inform delivery of the scheme.
