Isle of Manroad surface upgrade work due in summer months

A series of roads are set to close for a day to allow the for the infrastructure department's annual surface dressing programme.

Carried out across the Isle of Man by contractors Kiely Brothers, preparation works are set to begin in late June, with surfacing works due in July and August.

Daytime closures have been scheduled in most areas, with diversions put in place, but the closure on South Quay in Douglas has been planned for before the morning rush hour.

The department said regular updates about the specific times of closures would be shared on social media in advance.

The process involves the spraying of a thin film of bitumen on the road surface followed by the even spreading of aggregate, which is then flattened by rollers.

Speed restrictions will be put in place on newly treated roads while the sweeping up of loose chippings then takes place.

• Ballamona Road and Summerhill Road in Jurby

• Jurby Road, the Lhen Road and Regaby West Road in Andreas

• Andreas Road in Ramsey, from Jurby Road to Bride Road

• Ballacrye Road in Ballaugh

• Cranstal Road in Bride

• Ballaragh Road in Garff

• Groves Road and Palatine Road in Douglas

• Colby Glen Road in Arbory

Some roads have also been earmarked for a coat of sealant, which will see them closed to traffic for a second day near the end of the process.

The department said work had already been undertaken to scrape back verges in some of the rural roads included in the plans so the "full width of the road can be improved".
