Highway Traffic Management have raised over £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support across their 23-24 business year, with a range of activities and events helping them hit their fundraising target.
This year was the first year for a while that the business decided to raise money throughout the year focused on a dedicated charity. The business gave employees the opportunity to vote for the charity they wanted to support across the year, with Macmillan Cancer Support being the chosen charity, something that felt appropriate following the passing of HTM’s founder and chair, Keith Baldwin, early on in the year.
The business set its sights on raising an impressive £10,000 for the charity and assigned a fundraising lead in Marketing & Communications Manager, Flora Donnelly, who arranged a number of events throughout the year.
The business kicked things off with a team of HTM employees from across the Birmingham and Lincoln depots participating in the Summer Wolf Run, a 10k run through the grounds of the Stamford Estate in Loughborough.
Other activities included guessing how many cones and how many sweets were in a jar, as well as bake sales at HTM depots for Macmillan’s ‘Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning’ event.
As ever, HTM applied their ‘out of the box’ thinking and hosted their very own ‘Get Pied’ event which saw company directors, Greg Baldwin and Marcus Casey, in line for cream pies to be thrown in exchange for donations towards the charity. Joining them were HR Manager Lucinda Sturman, Payroll Administrator Sharon Ryan, Logistics Manager Mikee Booth, and Supervisors Daniel Lynch and Carlton Scrivens.
“We have always liked to do things a little differently and have fun along the way, and what better way to raise money than something as simple as this?” said Marcus, Business Director.
Other events included Danny Thorn’s cycling challenge, cycling from Southampton to Liverpool over 3 days, raising £535 towards the overall target.
HTM returned to Nailcote Hall to host their charity golf day to finish the year strong, with putting competitions and giant dartboard games, raffles and auctions raising a huge £4,770 towards their target.
The Lincoln Depot also led the first HTM Fishing Match at Westwood Lakes, again with raffles in addition to the fishing competition held on the day, raising £1,072.46 towards the charity, with support from Kiel Bro’s, Traffix, A1 Jobs, Vard’s Bait and Tackle and Independent Bait and Tackle.
The business also planned the successful return of their golf day at Nailcote Hall, with support from R&C Williams, Acorn Environmental Services Ltd, Up To Speed Training & Assessments Ltd, Crown Highways, WJ South, First For Recruit, Kier Transportation and Re-flow Field Management. This featured a putting competition as well as a game with a giant inflatable dartboard, finishing with a raffle and auction, with a Scotty Cameron Putter up for grabs. Other prizes included donations from St Martins Place, The AC Hotel Mailbox and the Hilton Garden Inn (Brindley Place). The event raised a totalof £4,770 towards the overall target.”
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who has participated in these events, from clients and suppliers to our own employees. A lot of effort has been put in to help hit this target and it’s a cause very close to our hearts this year,” said MD, Greg Baldwin.
He continued, “We’re incredibly proud of raising such a huge amount of money for Macmillan and all we can say is thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point, every donation has made a difference. Thank you.”
Kate McGrory, Relationship Fundraising Manager from Macmillan, shared information about the vital support services that could be provided thanks to the funds raised.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone. Your efforts will be able to fund 3 vital services; a Macmillan nurse to provide practical, emotional and medical support to those living with cancer for 1 month; 1 month’s assistance from our information and support centre; and also just over 2 weeks at our welfare and benefits advice centre,” she said.
The business will be appointing a new charity for their 24-25 charity of the year.
