Highway Care Launches Aegis IPV: Turnkey Impact Protection Vehicle for Safer Roads

Highway Care has unveiled the Aegis Impact Protection Vehicle (IPV) – a new addition to its Mobile Traffic Products (MTP) range – offering a complete turnkey solution for road safety.

Designed to deliver trusted safety, compliance, and durability, the Aegis IPV integrates proven components from the company’s market-leading traffic product portfolio into one robust, build-to-order unit.

Part of Highway Care’s expanding MTP range, the Aegis IPV plays a critical role in protecting road workers and road users during road maintenance and infrastructure improvement projects. The vehicle is fitted with the SS90™ HD lorry-mounted crash cushion and the Horizont Vertical Light Arrow (VLA) system, providing a comprehensive and reliable safety solution for live carriageway operations.

The Horizont VLA delivers high-visibility warning signs and directional lighting, helping to alert drivers of upcoming road works and safely guide them to an open lane. Meanwhile, the SS90™ HD crash cushion offers robust protection for operatives and is built with a galvanised external safety frame that resists nuisance damage. Engineered for long-term use, the cushion is also easily repairable following medium or light impacts, reducing operational downtime and maximising on-road availability.

Mounted on an 18-tonne dropside body vehicle, the Aegis IPV is based on the Iveco Eurocargo 18T chassis as standard. The vehicle can be driven at 55 mph on rear air suspension and 35 mph on rear steel suspension, even while the crash cushion is deployed—providing high levels of practicality and durability.

Each Aegis IPV is assembled to order, with the crash cushion, VLA, and bodywork fitted to a free-issue chassis. This approach allows customers to tailor the specification to meet their specific operational requirements, while ensuring compliance and quality across all configurations.
