Go-Ahead’s bus operations are playing a major role in powering the UK economy—contributing at least £2.2 billion in 2025 alone, according to a new report.
Analysis by Oxford Economics highlights the scale of the group’s impact, showing its combined bus and rail network delivered a total economic contribution of £6.4 billion last year.
Behind the headline figure is a vast operation: more than 30,000 employees, over 6,000 buses, and millions of journeys connecting people to jobs, education and services across the country.
Go-Ahead London leads the way, generating over £1 billion in economic value, while regional operators—from the South Coast to the North East—collectively add hundreds of millions more.
But the impact goes beyond transport. The report points to a strong boost for tourism, with Go-Ahead services supporting millions of leisure journeys and contributing an estimated £125 million in visitor spending.
The company also spent £2.4 billion with UK suppliers, underlining its wider role in supporting businesses and local economies.
Industry leaders say the findings reinforce the importance of public transport as a backbone of economic growth—helping communities thrive, supporting high streets, and keeping the country moving.
As demand for sustainable and accessible travel continues to grow, the report positions bus networks not just as a service—but as a vital engine of the UK economy.
