Lumo has unveiled its first refurbished Class 222 train—marking a major step towards the launch of its new West Coast services, with tickets now on sale earlier than planned.
The newly overhauled unit, numbered 222601, has emerged from Alstom’s Widnes Technology Centre with a fresh look and a reconfigured layout, as the open access operator gears up to run services between London Euston and Stirling.

In a sign of growing momentum, Lumo has also brought forward ticket sales to 9 June—earlier than the previously announced July start—raising the possibility that services could begin even sooner.
The refurbished train has been transformed from a seven-car to a six-car set, with its First Class section removed in favour of a fully Standard Class layout. Inside, passengers can expect a modernised interior with grey and silver seating and upgraded onboard connectivity.

Before entering service, the train will undergo testing on the West Coast Main Line, while further units in the fleet are still awaiting refurbishment.
Lumo described the milestone as a key moment in its expansion plans, as it prepares to introduce a new, lower-cost rail option on one of the UK’s busiest corridors.
