ffeibr has extended its next-generation full fibre network beyond the Core Valley Lines rail corridor, reaching into Cardiff city centre and Cardiff Bay.
The network, which is deployed alongside railway infrastructure, builds on existing South Wales Metro fibre routes. The expansion is intended to enhance digital capacity across the Cardiff Capital Region and support wider economic and technological development.
According to the company, the upgraded routes deliver high-speed connectivity with improved upload and download capabilities, greater reliability for data-intensive applications, and resilient links to data centres and cloud services—supporting sectors such as digital media and advanced business operations.
A key aspect of the model is that profits generated by ffeibr are reinvested into the Welsh public sector through Transport for Wales.
The extension into Cardiff is also designed to strengthen connectivity between the capital and surrounding Valleys. By enhancing core network links, businesses and communities are expected to benefit from improved access to economic opportunities, public services and cultural hubs within the city.
Guy Reiffer, Managing Director of ffeibr, said:“Bringing our full fibre network into central Cardiff represents a significant milestone for digital infrastructure in Wales. It’s about more than faster connections—it’s about enabling innovation, supporting growth and creating long-term opportunities.
“Working alongside our Welsh delivery partner, Gforce Telecoms, we’ve developed a high-capacity, future-ready network that will support both businesses and public services.”
Ginty Foster, CEO of Gforce Telecoms, added:“We’re proud to be working with ffeibr on this important project in Cardiff. It’s a collaborative effort aimed at addressing key infrastructure needs in the capital and marks the start of a longer-term partnership to deliver high-speed connectivity across Wales.
“Thanks go to all the teams involved for their dedication in bringing this project to life—we’re excited about what comes next.”
