Energy efficient lighting to be installed on A585

Energy efficient lighting to be installed on A585

A lighting upgrade creating safer journeys for drivers on the A585 is set to get underway from Monday 30 October.

National Highways will replace the existing lighting columns with a low energy LED system on the A585 from junction 3 of the M55 to Dock Road, Fleetwood.

The work is expected to complete mid December.

As part of a comprehensive five-year plan, National Highways will invest £132 million to upgrade 70% of lighting along various routes. This aligns with their commitment to reduce carbon emissions and minimise environmental impact across the road network.

National Highways Project Manager Curtis Powell said:

“Safety is our top priority at National Highways. The new LED lights will not only reduce our emissions and ensure that journeys are safer, but also reduce the amount of maintenance needed across the network.”

The work will take place from 9pm to 5am, to minimise disruptions to daytime traffic. The work will be carried out in sections, meaning we will close the A585 in short segments between

roundabouts. These are as follows:

• Monday 30 October: the A585 will be closed between Dock Street roundabout and the roundabout junction with A587 Station Road and Anchorage Road.

• Tuesday 31 October to Thursday 2 November: A585 Amounderness Way closed between the roundabout junction with A587 Station Road and Anchorage Road, and the roundabout junction with Denham Way and Herring Road Arm.

• Friday 3 November, Monday 5 to Wednesday 8 November: A585 Amounderness Way closed between Eros roundabout and the roundabout junction with Denham Way and Herring Arm Road.

Dates and times are subject to slight change due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather. During any closures, fully signed diversion routes will be in place.
