East Midlands Railway (EMR), operated by Transport UK, has opened applications for its 2026 Community Fund, offering £100,000 in grants to support projects that benefit communities across its network.

The fund is available to non-profit organisations within 15km of an EMR-managed station, with a focus on initiatives that promote wellbeing, inclusion and opportunity. The scheme is designed to help grassroots groups turn ideas into impactful local projects.

Applications must be submitted by midnight on 22 May 2026, with successful applicants expected to be informed in early June.

Guidance and application forms are available via the EMR website, and organisations are advised to check eligibility criteria carefully, including any match funding requirements. Submissions must be formally signed by senior representatives such as a Chair, Manager, Treasurer or Secretary.

Kaye Robinson, EMR’s Community Engagement Manager, said the fund provides vital support for organisations delivering positive change across the region, encouraging groups in need of financial backing to apply before the deadline.

Previous projects demonstrate impact

The fund has already supported a range of initiatives in recent years.

In Derby, Derby Theatre received £4,000 to expand its Dementia Café programme, increasing outreach to care homes and supporting both residents and carers. Activities included a special anniversary event and a touring programme of performances across multiple locations.

Over The Wall Camp was awarded more than £10,000 to fund places for children living with serious illness to attend residential camps, covering accommodation, activities and travel. The organisation is also preparing to open a new permanent site in Derbyshire in 2026.

Meanwhile, The Sisterhood Collective, delivered by Sequence, received funding to support a series of talks and an exhibition at Nottingham Central Library. The project provided a platform for women and women-identifying photographers, promoting inclusion and professional development within the arts.

How to apply

Community groups interested in applying can find full details and submit applications via the EMR website.
