Residents and local businesses in Dovercourt will have the opportunity to learn more about upcoming regeneration works at a public information event next month.
The event, organised by Essex County Council, Tendring District Council and the Dovercourt Town Centre High Street Accelerator Partnership, will take place at Harwich Library on 14 April between 3pm and 7pm. Attendees will be able to view project plans and speak directly with those involved.
This follows the start of initial works on the first phase of public realm improvements, with Essex County Council and Tendring District Council working in partnership to deliver the schemes.
Contractors have now been appointed, with M Group Highways leading on the main public realm works and Ryebridge responsible for the High Street Accelerator green spaces project.
The green spaces scheme, valued at £500,000, will focus on enhancing key locations including the Queen Victoria statue area, the underpass connecting the seafront to Mill Lane, and sections of the seafront pathways. Some temporary path closures will be required during construction, although access to the promenade will remain open.
Alongside this, the £2.39 million Dovercourt Public Realm Scheme is scheduled to begin in the spring. This will include improvements along the B1414 Kingsway, with upgrades such as new paving, landscaping and enhancements to public spaces. Works will also take place around Dovercourt Railway Station and Harwich Library.
Both projects are being coordinated to reduce disruption, with shared traffic management arrangements in place.
Councillor Mark Platt of Essex County Council said the schemes would help create a more welcoming and attractive route through the area, while encouraging residents and businesses to attend the upcoming event to find out more.
Councillor Ivan Henderson of Tendring District Council added that delivering both projects at the same time would provide a significant boost to Dovercourt town centre, thanking the community for their patience during construction.
Project partners also highlighted the wider benefits of the works, including improving public spaces, supporting tourism and contributing to Dovercourt’s long-term regeneration.
These schemes form part of a broader capital programme in the area, which also includes the recent refurbishment of Harwich Library, a new car park on Milton Road and the development of new council housing on Victoria Street.
