The Skills Centre, in partnership with NOCN Group, has introduced a series of CPCS-supported construction bootcamps aimed at accelerating entry into the industry.
One of the most recent sessions has been specifically tailored to encourage more women to pursue careers in construction.
These bootcamps are structured to provide participants with both practical, hands-on experience and the recognised qualifications needed to safely operate construction plant machinery. On completion, learners receive CPCS certification, enabling them to begin work on-site with the required credentials.
Training takes place at The Skills Centre’s Earl’s Court location, which is currently London’s only dedicated CPCS training facility. This site offers access to specialist machinery and realistic working conditions, helping learners develop job-ready skills.
Available at various points throughout the year, the programme is designed to break down common barriers to entering the construction sector. Its intensive format allows participants to gain the necessary skills and qualifications in a relatively short period, improving their chances of securing employment quickly.
Charlie Lillington, a former farmer, recently joined one of the women-focused bootcamps held shortly after International Women’s Day. With prior experience using heavy machinery, she viewed the course as an opportunity to transition into a new career offering improved pay and working hours.
She encouraged other women to consider the industry, saying that while construction remains male-dominated, increased female participation will help drive change.
