Bath & North East Somerset Council has received strong praise from residents in the latest national satisfaction survey, with several services achieving top rankings.

The council topped the country out of 111 local authorities for ease of contacting the council and reporting a problem, while its Park & Ride service secured the second-highest satisfaction rating nationwide for the third consecutive year.

Around 700 residents, chosen at random, took part in the National Highways and Transport Network Satisfaction Survey. Satisfaction with highway maintenance saw a notable jump to fourth place, up from eleventh last year, reflecting the council’s ongoing investment in maintaining the local road network.

In 2025/26, the council is spending nearly £10 million on highways – an increase of £760,000 compared with the previous year – which includes a recently completed £5.1 million resurfacing programme.

Councillor Lucy Hodge, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport Delivery, said:

“It’s a fantastic achievement to see such high satisfaction rankings again this year. Many thanks to all the residents who took part.We are continuing to invest in our highways, and this survey helps us benchmark our performance against over 100 other councils. It’s important to celebrate what we’re doing well while also identifying where we can improve.”

The survey also placed the council in the top ten nationally for cycle parking, public rights of way, parking restrictions, communication, and the speed and quality of officer responses. Areas where residents expressed lower satisfaction included traffic levels and congestion.

Full survey results are available on the National Highways and Transport (NHT) website.
