Motorists using the A1 are being advised to plan ahead as a series of layby closures are set to take place during upcoming maintenance works.

National Highways has announced that routine works scheduled across April, May and June may result in the temporary closure of laybys along both the northbound and southbound carriageways.

The works will cover a significant stretch of the route, from Wothorpe near Stamford—close to the junction of the A43 and A1175—through to Blyth, near Worksop.

Laybys will be shut in phases between 13:00 and 06:00, with closures expected to rotate along different sections of the road.

Although the official order permitting the works came into force last Friday, the first closures are not due to begin until Tuesday. This timing is intended to minimise disruption over the Easter bank holiday period.

National Highways has indicated that the restrictions are likely to remain in place for around two months while the maintenance programme is carried out.
