Winvic Construction Ltd has successfully completed a major infrastructure project in Newport Pagnell three months ahead of schedule, delivering significant highways improvements for developer Newlands Developments.
The £14 million programme focused on general highways and access upgrades for the new Panattoni Park industrial and logistics hub in Milton Keynes, as well as associated housing developments along Willen Road. Key elements included:
Dualling a 600m section of Willen Road from the M1 bridge to Marsh End Roundabout
Upgrading the A422 carriageway and Marsh End Roundabout
Widening approaches from two to three lanes
Constructing two new signalised junctions to improve traffic flow and safety
Installing 3,000m of new drainage, utility diversions, road tie-ins, and extensive resurfacing
The majority of works were carried out off-line to minimise disruption, enabling the project to be handed over three months ahead of the planned February 2026 completion date.
Earlier in the year, Winvic also delivered two speculative Net Zero, BREEAM Outstanding industrial units and completed extensive site preparation at Panattoni Park.
Social Value and Local Impact
As part of its social value commitments, Winvic worked with Newlands Developments to implement a Local Employment and Training Plan, generating meaningful benefits for the community:
243 local employment opportunities created on site
4 apprentices, 2 T Level students, and 4 work experience placements trained and upskilled
Engagement with 33 local businesses, 77% of which were SMEs
£12,000 spent with Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs)
Partnership with VCSE Community Wood Recycling to divert 4.4 tonnes of timber, creating further local employment
Environmental Performance
The project delivered a 33% reduction in upfront A1-A5 carbon, achieving 298kgCO2e/m² through sustainable construction measures:
Low-carbon concrete with 40% Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) in office floors, saving 1,052 tCO2e
Steel reinforcement with up to 100% recycled content, saving 1,678 tCO2e
100% of waste diverted from landfill, with 96% recycled and 4% converted to green energy, preventing 326 tCO2e
Early grid connection to reduce reliance on diesel generators, saving an additional 25 tCO2e
Leadership Comment
Rob Cook, Managing Director for Civils and Infrastructure at Winvic, said:
“We are proud to continue our relationship with Newlands Developments to deliver these strategic updates and infrastructure resilience. Maintaining the operation of the A422 throughout the works was a key priority, and our close collaboration with Newlands and Milton Keynes Council was essential to achieving this. Thanks to the expertise and experience of our teams, the project was delivered safely, efficiently, ahead of schedule, and with minimal disruption to the local community.”
The completion of this project not only enhances traffic flow and safety in the area but also reinforces Winvic’s reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects with a strong focus on sustainability, social value, and efficiency.
