Warwickshire County Council has been recognised as the best-performing county authority in the UK for drain and gully maintenance, according to a nationwide public survey.
The findings come from an Ipsos Mori study which measures residents’ views on highway and transport services across the country. Warwickshire ranked first among all county councils for keeping drains clear and functioning effectively.
The strong result reflects the council’s preventative approach to drainage maintenance, helping to reduce flooding risks and improve safety on roads and pavements. Warwickshire also performed highly in related categories, finishing second for tackling flooding on roads and pavements — an improvement of ten places on last year — and taking first place for the provision of drains.
As part of the survey, questionnaires were sent to 3,300 randomly selected households across Warwickshire, with 715 residents responding. This equates to a response rate of 21.7 per cent, well above the national average of 18.1 per cent, providing a solid indicator of public satisfaction.
Councillor Jennifer Warren, the council’s portfolio holder for transport and planning, welcomed the results.
She said: “We’re extremely pleased to see Warwickshire leading the country for drainage maintenance. Keeping drains and gullies clear plays a crucial role in preventing flooding and keeping our roads safe and usable. These results show that our continued investment and commitment are delivering real benefits for residents.
“I’d also like to thank everyone who took part in the survey. The response rate was significantly higher than the national average and highlights how engaged our communities are. That local insight is vital in helping us target resources where they are needed most effectively.”
