Work is planned on a bridge which provides a key route to two villages in Warwickshire.
Main Street bridge, between Thurlaston and Dunchurch, goes over the M45 and provides the only access in and out of Thurlaston.
National Highways has said work, which starts next Tuesday and is expected to continue until April, needs to take place on the structure to ensure it remains safe and reliable into the future.
A spokesman said: "As Main Street provides the only vehicle access into and out of the village of Thurlaston, every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum."
Plans include carrying out concrete repairs, installing a new waterproof membrane and an improved vehicle barrier, and resurfacing the carriageway and footpath.
Temporary traffic lights will be brought on to the bridge, which will remain suitable for all vehicles.
There will also be short closures on the motorway underneath while the scaffolding is put up and later taken down.
The M45 will remain open to traffic but will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. The route over the bridge will remain open for pedestrians.
