VolkerHighways has been awarded two major public realm projects along the A4 by Slough Borough Council, with a combined value of over £17 million over the next two years.

The first project involves constructing a dedicated cycleway along the A4 corridor, stretching from the Bath Road/Huntercombe Lane North junction to the Bath Road/Wexham Road junction. This forms part of Slough Borough Council’s broader plan to improve sustainable transport options in the region.

In addition, VolkerHighways will carry out civils improvements along Farnham Road to enhance the local shopping district, making the area more appealing for both residents and visitors. The work will also include a connecting cycle link to integrate with the A4 Bath Road Cycleway.

Both schemes aim to reduce car travel, improve air quality, encourage active travel through safer walking and cycling routes, and uplift the overall appearance of the local environment.

Kunle Kolaru, Operations Director at VolkerHighways, said:

“We are proud to support Slough Borough Council in delivering its sustainability goals through active travel projects. By working closely with our supply chain, we aim to introduce innovative, low-carbon solutions that improve infrastructure while generating lasting benefits. We are also committed to engaging with the local community to deliver meaningful social value initiatives.”

The contracts were awarded via VolkerHighways’ sister company, VolkerFitzpatrick, under the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Framework.
