A traffic survey is being carried out to assess the future of roads at risk from coastal erosion.
People living in north Norfolk may have recently spotted traffic counters and cameras on roadside verges.
The equipment was installed as part of a study to look at the future of coastal roads as erosion continues to threaten communities in North Norfolk.
Ed Maxfield, county councillor for Mundesley division, said: “Proactive study of road use in the area and options for the future is something I first called for almost eight years ago when I was first elected to the County Council.
"I am delighted this work is finally being done.”
Norfolk County Council said the surveys began in the week of August 18.
Automatic counters remained in place for two weeks while about 50 video cameras were installed for two days across Cromer, North Walsham and Mundesley.
A spokesman said the cameras would help identify travel patterns but added that all data would be anonymised.
The project is part of Coastwise, a DEFRA and Environment Agency-funded scheme preparing North Norfolk communities for the impact of erosion.
