TMS Consultancy has launched a new free e-learning course examining the use of e-scooters on the highway, aimed at professionals working in road safety and highways.
The online course provides an overview of the legislation governing e-scooter use, alongside a review of existing research and evidence from the Government’s e-scooter trials. It is available through the TMS Consultancy website and is designed to be completed in around one hour.
As part of the course, participants work through three interactive workshops.
The first requires learners to analyse Department for Transport e-scooter factsheets and identify the most relevant information. The remaining two workshops encourage participants to assess the current advantages and disadvantages of e-scooters, and to consider what future approaches road safety and highways professionals might recommend.
The course is designed to give learners a clear understanding of the key issues surrounding e-scooter use on the highway. It explores what e-scooters are and what is currently known about them, public perceptions of e-scooters in the UK, and findings from Government trial schemes.
It also examines collision and casualty data, safety concerns raised in the UK, Europe and Australia, and the wider pros and cons of e-scooters as a transport mode, before looking ahead to what the future may hold for their regulation and use.
