Transport for London (TfL) is offering a rare opportunity for bus enthusiasts to own a piece of London history, with five authentic 1960s AEC Routemaster double-deckers going under the hammer next month.
While classic Routemasters occasionally appear for sale, it is unusual for five to be offered simultaneously, all still owned by TfL and previously operating on the heritage Route 15 service.
The buses up for auction include:
RM2089 – ALM 89B
RM2060 – ALM 60B
RM2071 – ALM 71B
RM2050 – ALM 50B
RM652 – WLT 652
The vehicles are currently housed at West Ham bus garage and are being sold through Wilsons Auctions.
Nigel Binks, Associate Director UK Sales at Wilsons Auctions, said: “These buses are instantly recognisable and unmistakably British, representing a lasting symbol of London’s heritage. Potential buyers will be pleased to know that all five vehicles are fully operational.”
He added: “We’re honoured to partner with TfL on this auction. It’s a unique chance for collectors to acquire a genuine piece of history.”
