TfL searching for 25 young transport enthusiasts to record station PA announcements and go behind the scenes.
Does your child dream of hearing their voice echo through a London Underground station? Transport for London (TfL) is inviting young transport ‘superfans’ aged 5-16 to share their love of the capital’s iconic network for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to record special PA announcements.
As part of TfL’s 25th anniversary celebrations, 25 lucky winners will not only get to record a message that will be played at a London station, but they will also receive an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of normally restricted areas of the network.
To enter, children must explain in 100 words or less why they are a ‘superfan’ of a particular mode of transport. Whether it’s the London Overground line that takes them to visit their grandparents, the bus route to football matches, or the Cycleway they ride every weekend, every personal connection to London’s transport counts. Winners, chosen by TfL staff, will have their announcement featured at a London station for millions to hear.
The prize also includes a behind-the-scenes visit to a location relevant to their entry, such as a bus or tram depot, the IFS Cloud Cable Car, or a Tube or rail station, giving them an inside look at how TfL keeps London moving. In addition, winners will receive a special ‘goodie bag’ filled with 25th anniversary TfL merchandise, including an iconic poster.
London’s Transport Commissioner, Andy Lord, described the initiative as “a fantastic opportunity for children to get involved and for transport ‘superfans’ to make their mark and share their stories with millions of people across the capital.” He added, “London is full of surprise and intrigue, and these announcements will allow us all to see the wonder of the city through children’s eyes. It may even open their eyes to a fulfilling career in transport.”
The competition runs until Wednesday, April 23, and further details are available on the TfL Travel for Life website. All entries must be submitted via email to TfLSuperFansComp@tfl.gov.uk
