Telent has been awarded a new long-term contract by South Western Railway (SWR), extending a partnership that has spanned more than 15 years and underpins key passenger-facing systems across the network.

The agreement will see Telent continue to provide both planned and reactive maintenance for Station Information and Security Systems (SISS) at 186 stations and 13 depots. The scope includes critical assets such as CCTV, Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems, Passenger Help Points, body-worn cameras, customer information displays, clocks and dispatch monitoring systems.

These systems play a vital role in day-to-day operations, supporting passenger communication, safety and service delivery across one of the UK’s busiest rail networks.

As part of the contract, Telent will deploy a range of digital tools, including SolarWinds® and its Arbitex CCTV assurance platform, to enable real-time monitoring, improve asset performance and accelerate fault resolution.

The maintenance programme is designed to ensure systems remain consistently operational, helping deliver accurate travel information, clear announcements and responsive assistance for passengers.

Mike Harten, Director of Transport Communications Systems & Services at Telent, said: “Extending our partnership with SWR reflects the collaborative approach we’ve built over many years. Our focus is on maintaining reliable, high-performing systems that support both passengers and operational teams, with transparency and shared accountability at the core of delivery.”

Mark Barrow, Senior Security & Customer Information Systems Manager at SWR, added: “Reliable information and secure station environments are essential for both our customers and colleagues. Telent’s ongoing support provides continuity and helps ensure these systems perform as expected across the network.”

In addition to maintenance, Telent has supported SWR with system upgrades and enhancements over time, including improvements to CCTV infrastructure and customer information systems. The renewed contract reinforces Telent’s role in delivering resilient communications and security solutions across the rail sector.
