Road users thanked for their patience during Island Roads’ improvement works

Island Roads is thanking road users, businesses and residents at the end of an intensive programme of road improvement work.

The three-week programme of surface dressing finished this week subject to some final sweeping, snagging and road marking and road stud (cat’s eye) replacement work.

17 kilometres of road treatedDuring the programme, more than 17 kilometres of road – more than 100,000 square metres – was treated. The programme was assisted by the warm, dry weather which meant not a single shift was lost.

Surface dressing is used to improve the skid resistance of the road surface and to prevent water ingress which is a major cause of potholes.

An Island Roads spokesperson said,

“Though surface dressing is applied by moving vehicles so disruption is minimised, it is impossible to avoid an element of inconvenience so we’d like to thank residents for their support and co-operation.

“This support and compliance with the necessary road closures helps keep road users and our staff safe and also helps us complete the work as quickly as possible.

“With the exception of a very few incidents, the general public were fantastic throughout the programme and all of us at Island Roads are extremely grateful.”
