A reduced speed limit is being introduced on a stretch of the M6.

National Highways has confirmed the 50mph restriction will be in place on both the northbound and southbound carriageways between September 22 and November 21.

It will cover the area from 750 metres south of Foundry Lane Bridge in Halton, near Lancaster, to 800 metres north of the bridge.

The restriction is being introduced to allow for barrier works and general maintenance.

It will be in operation continuously during this period, although the order allows for the possibility of the works continuing beyond November 21 if required.

The restriction will only apply when indicated by traffic signs.

Emergency services and special forces vehicles will be exempt.

The order comes into force on September 21 and will remain in place for a maximum of 18 months, although the restriction is only expected to be in place for the duration of the works.

Anyone with questions about the works can contact National Highways by emailing sam.smith@nationalhighways.co.uk.
