Preparatory construction has started on the fourth section of the A9 Dualling project, covering the stretch between Tay Crossing and Ballinluig.

The works, expected to continue into early 2026, include setting up a temporary site compound and office facilities between Guay and Kindallachan, establishing access points for construction traffic, carrying out tree-felling operations, and preparing for utility diversions along the route.

The contract for this section was awarded to Wills Bros Civil Engineering Ltd earlier this year.

The £257 million Scottish Government investment (based on Q2 2025 prices) will upgrade 8.2km (5 miles) of single carriageway to dual carriageway, improving safety and resilience for road users while providing additional benefits for local communities, including training, education, and employment opportunities.

Alongside site clearance, the contractor will host a series of “Meet the Contractor” events for residents, local communities, and businesses to share details of the construction programme. Dates and venues for these engagement sessions will be announced in the coming weeks.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop MSP commented:

“Works are now visible across both the southern and northern sections of the A9 Dualling Programme, and progress will continue as we work towards fully dualling the A9 by 2035.
“We understand there may be some local disruption, and I encourage residents to attend the contractor’s upcoming engagement events to learn more about the works.”

To maintain safety for workers and road users, temporary traffic management will be in place along different sections of the project, including between Jubilee Bridge and Ballinluig. Updates on traffic layouts and planned changes will be shared through Traffic Scotland, the A9 Dualling website, and other official channels, with road users advised to check these regularly for the latest information.
