Pinewood Studios has been honoured with a national award celebrating its efforts to promote greener and more active travel.
The Buckinghamshire-based film studio was named Business Site of the Year at the Modeshift National STARS Summit, held at the Royal Society in London on 18 March. The award highlights organisations that demonstrate strong commitment to reducing car dependency and encouraging sustainable transport choices.
The recognition follows the rollout of Pinewood’s Active Travel Plan, which has introduced a range of initiatives to support staff and visitors. These include a cycle-to-work programme featuring shared bikes, alongside facilities such as secure storage, CCTV, showers, lockers, and a bike repair station.
In addition, the studio has implemented a dedicated shuttle bus service, improved its on-site bus stops, and expanded the use of hybrid pool vehicles. Together, these measures aim to cut down on single-occupancy car journeys and provide more sustainable travel options.
Active Travel Minister Lilian Greenwood praised the wider impact of such initiatives, noting that encouraging walking, cycling and public transport can make everyday journeys healthier, more accessible, and environmentally friendly. She also highlighted ongoing government investment to expand active travel infrastructure across the country.
The Modeshift National STARS Summit brings together industry leaders, policymakers and campaigners to share best practice in sustainable transport across sectors including business, education and healthcare.
Nick Butler, Chief Operating Officer at Modeshift, commended Pinewood Studios for its achievements, stating that the award reflects the organisation’s dedication to improving travel options and reducing environmental impact.
The event also recognised other organisations making significant progress in promoting sustainable travel, reinforcing the growing momentum behind greener transport solutions across the UK.
