A new app called WeRoam is being trialled in Gravesend to make it easier and more fun for people to add walking, cycling, and wheeling into their daily routines.

Designed for anyone over 16, WeRoam encourages swapping short car journeys for more active options. The app tracks your activity, sends personalised reminders, and lets you connect with others to stay motivated.

Users can create or join groups for different activities — from walking to school or cycling to work, to neighbourhood strolls. By joining these groups, people can make active travel a social experience, discovering new routes and meeting others in their community along the way.

The pilot, launched by Kent County Council (KCC) and running from 26 January for up to six months, is supported by local organisations including community groups, retailers, and health initiatives, all helping residents get moving more easily.

Spencer Dixon, KCC’s deputy cabinet member for highways and transport, said:"WeRoam is all about making short trips — to the shops, to appointments, or around your neighbourhood — healthier and more enjoyable. Every step, wheel, or pedal makes a difference to your wellbeing, and using the app with friends or family makes it even more fun."

The app is available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play, and anyone living or working in Gravesend can join the trial.
