National Highways proudly highlights the achievements of its team, featuring civils graduates, a civils degree apprentice, and an undergraduate industry placement during National Apprenticeship Week.
Among these individuals, we would like to specifically highlight the outstanding achievements of the Civils Degree Apprentice. Since joining the company in December, Baktazh has proven to be a valuable asset, making significant contributions to projects, notably on the M25 Junction 10 Wisley scheme – one of the largest projects in the South East.
Meet Baktazh Mohammad, enrolled in the Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship programme at National Highways, currently working on the M25 Junction 10 Wisley alongside with their main contractor Balfour Beatty.
His decision to join this program was influenced by the company's widespread influence and the chance to make a positive impact on millions of lives throughout the UK. One distinctive aspect of National Highways' program is its rotational placements, offering apprentices exposure to diverse business sectors, setting it apart from other companies.

When asked about their experience at National Highways, Baktazh expressed gratitude for the inclusive and supportive environment. The ease of settling in and the helpful nature of colleagues have allowed them to thrive within the company. Any queries or uncertainties were promptly addressed, fostering a collaborative atmosphere.
"One of the things I've enjoyed the most since starting at National Highways is being included and involved within the company. Everyone is very helpful, and settling down was very easy," Baktazh shared.
For those considering an apprenticeship, Baktazh offers valuable advice: "Research the company you are joining, understand the different works they do, and align with the company values. Explore the specifics of the job role you are applying for and be open-minded, as you'll be expected to take on various responsibilities." Accompanied by Jonathan Wade, the project manager, overseeing the work on the junction project, works alongside Baktazh at the compound.
In terms of project involvement, he takes pride in their placement at M25 J10, a major project in Wisley, with diverse works that will bring substantial benefits to the public and travelers upon completion. Working with the technical assurance team, he actively participates in on-site activities, including the documentation of daily diaries to track project progress.
Jonathan Wade, project manager on the scheme states: " We highly value the presence of apprentices in our team. It provides them with a valuable opportunity to learn and gain firsthand experience on one of the biggest schemes in the southeast. This exposure is instrumental in shaping their understanding of how the work is done in a real-world setting."
National Highways applauds Baktazh for his commitment to excellence and looks forward to supporting their continued success throughout their apprenticeship journey.
