More than 400 roads across Suffolk are set for upgrades as part of the largest ever project of its kind.
This week, Suffolk Highways will begin work to resurface 102 roads across the county – with a further 319 in the pipeline later this year, for a total of 421.
The authority will be applying road surface dressing, a treatment put on roads to stop deterioration before it becomes a safety issue.
“The surface dressing programme is one of a range of methods we use to maintain and future-proof our roads,” he said.
“Preventative treatments such as machine resurfacing and surface dressing help stop potholes forming in the first place.”
Surface treatment restores skid resistance, seals the surface from water, stabilises level differences and removed potholes.

This project will be conducted alongside normal repairs for roads, including potholes.
Cllr West said the county repaired more than 9,000 potholes and resurfaced 41 roads in the last six months, with 278 roads planned for resurfacing during the financial year.
About £10 million had been injected into resurfacing projects, with the authority looking for new ways to fill potholes, he said.
Cllr West added: “I am glad that extra money going to road maintenance this year is almost double what we have seen in recent years, it remains one of our top priorities as the local highway authority.
“We recognise there is some way to go, however we are committed to doing all we can within the parameters of funding and resources to maintain Suffolk’s roads to the standards we all want to see.”
