The Metropolitan Police Service (Met) is expanding its partnership with Transport for London (TfL) to enhance safety and community policing across the capital’s transport network.
The collaboration, which has been in place for more than 20 years, will see officers increasingly integrated into neighbourhood teams while maintaining a dedicated presence on roads and bus routes.
Under the New Met for London Plan, the force aims to create larger, more flexible neighbourhood teams, enabling officers and PCSOs to respond quickly to local needs. The move will improve visibility, trust, and the focus on key priorities including tackling violence against women and girls, safeguarding young passengers, addressing hate crime, reducing road danger, and improving bus and road reliability.
Commander Charmain Brenyah said:"This new model builds on over two decades of close work with TfL while ensuring we respond to the priorities of Londoners. It will increase officer visibility in communities and focus resources on the issues that matter most, including tackling violent crime."
Siwan Hayward, TfL’s Director of Security, Policing and Enforcement, added:"Our partnership with the Met ensures additional policing on the transport network, keeping passengers, staff, and road users safe. This includes a stronger focus on protecting young people, transport workers, and tackling violence and aggression on buses and taxis."
The changes will include greater police presence at key bus stations during term time and stepped-up enforcement against dangerous road behaviours such as speeding, drink-driving, and mobile phone use while driving. TfL will provide funding to support these initiatives, ensuring that London’s transport system remains a safe and reliable environment for all users.
